Christmas Island April 2, 2019 to April 10, 2019

I will be heading out to the Christmas Island in the Republic of Kiribati.  This island is located between Hawaii and Fiji and is close to the equator in the Pacific Ocean.

Frank's Fly Fishing Adventures

Christmas Island is a well known destination for the hard core fly fishing fanatic, which I am one!  The Republic of Kiribati is located near the equator and has many different fish species that you can check off your list.  Here is a map of the area (click here).  This is actually an atoll and not much of a “island” as the highest spot on the entire land mass is 6 feet above sea level.  That being said this place is one huge flat.  There are over 200 square miles of flats inside this atoll and coral reef which makes for some of the best all around fly fishing in the world!  If you don’t believe me you will just have to go yourself and find out!

Fishing Report:

Everyone in the group (there were 17 fishing people at the Ikari Lodge) caught plenty of Bonefish, Triggerfish, various snappers and some of us caught some of the legendary GTs (Giant Trevally)!

Several of us went out to feed the guests and staff by catching Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo which was a blast in itself.  We also caugh some large Rainbow Runner, Barracuda and a Black GT which was a bonus!

I can’t wait to get back out there and do it all over again!
