The Fish whacker
This is the Fish Whacker fly! This fly was developed as a big fish catcher over many years and has accounted for many large fish to include brown, rainbow, cutthroat and brook trout as well as steelhead, salmon, pike, both largemouth and smallmouth bass and anything else that can get it into it’s mouth such as bluegill and crappie.
The name of this fly was given by some guides who use them all the time. When asked what they thought of this fly the response was “this fly is a fish whacker”, so the name stuck!
We do hold classes on “how-to” tie these and I will be doing demonstrations at the Fly Fishing Show at the Merchandise Mart every year as well as the ISE (International Sportsman’s Expo), the West Denver TU Fly Tying Clinic and other fly shops around the Denver metro area.
You can purchase these flies from the Umpqua Feather Merchants by calling them anytime at (303) 567-6696

The Mink Minnow
The Mink Minnow is a specialty of mine that has accounted for too many fish to list here, but similar to the Fish Whacker, this fly gets strikes when many other patterns get refused. Very simple to tie and super effective.
We will hold classes for these and many other patterns throughout the year as well as demo these flies at the shows!
Come see me tie these up for you and see how well these flies fish!
Other custom tied flies
I do have many more patterns that are unique but also teach the art of fly tying for any fly you can name. If you are interested in learning to tie flies, send us your contact information and we can see about classes for any types of patterns and from beginner to expert, we can help you out.
Fly Tying Classes start at $50 per student – all supplies will be furnished at each class
